Anne Kearney, 78, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, worked for years as a registered nurse, raising her four children on her own. Being a single mother was tough but she always found time to cook for her family.
“Even though I worked, I can never remember them not having a home-cooked meal,” Anne says.
“I used to have a swimming pool. In fact, a couple grandkids learned to swim there. We’d have the Wiener Sauce when we had a cookout. I’ve been serving this to my kids for 30 years. It’s great on hot dogs or hamburgers. It’s even better the next day as the flavors meld. It is so good.”
“Many of my recipes have been loved by my family for years…and now, my four children are making them for my grandchildren,” she smiles.
Anne shares, "I've been serving this to my kids for 30 years."
Brown the ground beef. Drain off any fat left in the pan. Add the onion, garlic and bell pepper. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Simmer over low heat for about an hour or so. Serve over hot dogs or hamburgers, or on a bun by itself.
A note from Anne: At the end, if it seems a bit 'loose', I add a little cornstarch mixed with water. Start with 1 heaping teaspoon combined in a bit of water (1 TB).
