“I love to dream up recipes and have them turn out great. It's what I enjoy most about cooking,” says Jean.

“This is what I enjoy most about cooking—taking a recipe idea and creating something totally new…or just dreaming up recipes in my head and having them turn out great, at least most of the time,” writes Jean Albers from Bloomington, Indiana.

“I had three boys, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt for them to know how to cook and bake—and they have all turned into very creative cooks. They started out by decorating Christmas cookies. Some of them were quite unsightly. I would say, ‘These are your very special cookies and only YOU may eat them,’” she chuckles.

“Anise Seed Cookies are a tradition at our house…I make them every single year,” adds Jean. “They are vintage—they have been around so long I can’t remember where they came from. But I still love them to this day. Even people who don’t like anise seem to like these cookies. The anise flavor is very subtle.”
