Grandma Hansen’s Apple Pie Jackie recalls, “My mother baked wonderful pies, especially fruit pies—apple, cherry, blueberry. When we visited home, we always had a choice. I’ve doctored her apple pie (my favorite) some, to use Granny Smiths (I’m not sure if she had access to these years ago) and my preference for brown sugar. I did learn from Mom to be generous with cinnamon, both in and on the pie.” 2 Cups flour 1 tsp. salt 2/3 Cup shortening 6-7 TB. cold water 6 Cups thinly sliced Granny Smith apples (6-8 apples) 2/3 Cup brown sugar, tightly packed 1/4 Cup flour 3/4 tsp. CINNAMON 1⁄8-1⁄4 tsp. GROUND NUTMEG 3 TB. butter, cut into pieces 1TB. milk or half & half 1 tsp. white or VANILLA SUGAR for topping
