Hilda's Westhaven Cake This is a great throwback to the 1950s from Kathy Lilly's mother Hilda. 1 Cup chopped dates 1 Cup boiling water 2/3 Cup shortening (butter would work) 1 Cup sugar 1 tsp. PURE VANILLA EXTRACT 2 eggs 1 3/4 Cups flour 2 TB. COCOA POWDER 1 tsp. salt 6 oz. chopped German sweet chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 Cup chopped walnuts
